Community Digital Photography Workshops

Photography workshops are a great way to give your community group the skills to document local stories, help promote your organisation or even start your own community photography project.

Workshops are designed for beginners who have little or no experience of using a compact digital camera. Workshops are suited to being run in community based settings with small groups of adults or young people. Workshops last approximately 3 hours (half a day or an evening) and combine teaching and practical activities covering the topics below. Participants will go away with useful handouts, practical knowledge and the confidence to use their cameras more effectively. It is also possible to tailor the workshop to suit your group.

Topics covered:

Image quality
Composition & shooting creatively
Creating photo stories and captions
Photo diplomacy (permission, consent, ethics)
Understanding how your compact digital camera works (settings)
Working with different lighting conditions
(optional) Photographic Slideshows (combining photos with audio)
