About

Jane Baker is a photographer based in the Midlands documenting stories about community, inequality, social justice and the environment, often working closely with NGOs, campaigning groups and community-based organisations. Recent clients include Friends of the Earth, Oxfam, Jubilee Debt Campaign, Terrence Higgins Trust and Hybrid Consulting. Her most recent international assignment was to Uganda to document the education work of Rafiki Thabo Foundation.

Jane was a contributor at FORMAT 2011 International Photography Festival with The Photography Collective as part of the Collective Encounters programme. Work from this series was also exhibited at Midlands Arts Centre (MAC), Birmingham as part of the Anticurate exhibitions.

Before turning to documentary photography Jane spent five years with Oxfam working for the video and photography teams, and also as a Media Campaigner in the Midlands. During her time with Oxfam she travelled to Sierra Leone, Liberia and India to document Oxfam’s work, interviewing members of the local community and directing world-class photographers. She also commissioned assignments on the food crisis in Haiti, maternal mortality in Afghanistan, pharmaceuticals in India and poverty in the UK, to name a few. Jane also worked on ‘After the Wave’, an Oxfam photography exhibition featuring press photographers from the Guardian and Independent held at the National Theatre in London, on the anniversary of the Asian Tsunami.

Jane is currently studying for an MA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at London College of Communication.
